Community Specialist

JAM Online Courses for Kids

Any Kid, Anywhere, Can Learn Any Skill

JAM and DIY produce online courses for kids about creative skills and careers of the future. On our platforms, kids ages 6-16 complete creative projects in response to challenges and prompts. Kids post their responses to each challenge in the form of a photo or video, and share encouragement and knowledge with each other via comments.

Why this job is awesome

Do you love to learn new things, make cool stuff and share photos and videos of your process? Do you enjoy looking at other people’s creative projects online and chiming in with encouragement and feedback? We want to pay you to do those things! Plus, you’ll get to work with kids - the most creative, hilarious and underappreciated artists and DIYers on the planet!

To top it off, we offer flexible, part-time hours and we’re remote-friendly, so you can maintain your own creative practice, go to school, or work other gigs, too.

The role

As a Community Specialist, you’ll work directly with kids and parents to help them make the most of our creative platforms. Your role includes two main functions:

Primary: Community Moderation

Moderators (mods) set the vibe for our kid communities. They are fun, creative makers who focus on keeping all kids safe, happy, and fearless to improve their skills and share their projects.

Secondary: Customer Support

You help our parents quickly resolve problems and unblock anything keeping them from having a positive experience with JAM.

The heart of the job

Socializer: You participate in our online kid communities, modeling positive behavior to inspire kids to actively participate and share their knowledge with each other. You make all kids feel welcome and you connect them to each other.

Safety Monitor: You keep our communities safe for all kids by transforming would-be trolls into contributing members of the community. You guide them toward kindness and enforce Community Guidelines and policies to keep the community safe.

Role Model: You are the face of creative confidence to our kid communities and the role model they admire. You are a maker with a portfolio of your own original work and you generously share your skills with the kids by participating in community challenges, posting your creative work, and videos that show your creative process.

Communicator: You are a pro at quickly and succinctly answering questions, and finding ways to delight and inspire kids with words, images and videos.

Support Agent: When needed, you jump in to help our parents quickly resolve problems and unblock anything keeping them from having a positive experience with DIY/JAM. You find ways to sell would-be customers on the benefits of DIY/JAM and help them get started with a free trial.

Tech Guru: You are an expert on our app and web features and are able to explain how to use DIY/JAM to parents and kids with a wide range of technical skills.

The day-to-day

Who you’ll work with

You will report to our Community Manager, collaborate occasionally with other mods, and be welcomed and supported by our outrageously fun and creative team based in SF.
